2nd Grade News

2nd Grade News – May 30, 2008

This week in language arts we read a story about a young girl who makes storyteller figures with her grandparents. The students worked on finding evidence from the story for statements that they made. In math we continued to review all of the concepts that we have learned throughout the year. The students wrote multiplication and division number stories and played a game that involved using their clock skills. In science the students learned more about Muscular Dystrophy and why we do the hop-a-thon.  In religion we continued to work on the rosary and the rosary books.  In Social Studies we completed Unit 4.  We learned about American symbols, landmarks, and memorials.  The Unit 4 test will be on Monday.  We will celebrate all we have learned on Friday 6/6 as we ask God to bless America.  Check the information on the website for items to be brought to school.

Hop-a-thon

We have exciting news; the whole second grade is going to be participating in a Hop-a-thon! The hop-a-thon is an event that will a help children and adults who are living with Muscular Dystrophy. This will be a week-long event that the students will really enjoy. Each day the students will participate in activities that will help them understand more about people who live with disabilities.  On Friday we will host our very own hop-a-thon. The Hop-a-thon will take place on Friday, May 30th from 10:00-11:00am.  A party will be on the same day from 1:00-2:00pm.

For this event each child will bring home an envelope with a pledge form. Each student will ask family and friends to pledge money for this event. We are asking that each pledge be a flat pledge and not one based on hops.  On the day of the event each child will hop for two minutes. An adult volunteer will count the number of hops and record it on the pledge form. We ask that the students have the money into school on the day of the hop-a-thon, May 30th. Please do not forget to sign the waiver on the back of the pledge form. We will need them in order for your child to participate.  Please send in one check for the entire amount written out to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

For this event we will need volunteers to help us count hops.  If you are willing to help please e-mail Mrs. Hoffman or Mrs. Schubring. Then you will be notified if you are needed to help. Thanks for all your help and support!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hoffman and Mrs. Schubring
