Sacramental Scrapbooking Night

This event is free, but requires registration

Who:Parents, Aunts and Grandparents of students at St. Patrick’s School, Grades 1-8

What: Come with the boxes and envelopes of momentos from your child’s Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Communion….and start the process of putting together these memories in a scrap book.  This is for all of us from beginners, who don’t know where to start, all the way to those who will be able to help the ‘design challenged’ among us.

When: Thursday, October 11, 2007, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Where: Dyer Hall of St. Patrick’s School, please enter through the Boehm Center Doors, #3.  There will be Girl’s Volleyball going on in the Boehm Center.  Don’t forget to cheer for our young ladies as you go past the gym!

Why: In times past, women gathered to sew and talk.  They created a fabric of connection that kept the traditions and stories of family alive.  The Church tells  families all the time that they are so crucial in the Sacramental Life and Tradition of their children, but they do not do practical things that can help families make that connection.  This evening is designed to start that.  It is not a fundraiser, This evening is about parents (moms, dads too, if they feel inclined), aunts and grandparents coming in and working on their own family memories of Sacraments.  Imagine how meaningful the gift of an album would be at Confirmation.  Beyond that, you could add Marriage and/or Ordination memories as they come along.

We tell our children all the time about how important the Sacraments are.  This album would be an important way to show them how much you care about their Sacramental Life.

What to bring:  Those of you who do scrap booking know what to bring.  Those who haven’t a clue, get your photos and stuff together, bring them and work at developing a plan.  You can check out what others are doing

  • This is not an evening where scrap booking supplies will be sold.

  • There will not be any babysitting

What if I have fun and can’t complete my work in 2 hours!!!!!!?:  If folks like this, we will schedule other evenings to keep the ‘momentum alive

REGISTRATION FOR THE EVENING:  There is a maximum of 150 individuals in Dyer Hall for this event.  Because of that, you must register and we will not take registrations after we have 150 individuals.  If interest for this is high, other nights will be scheduled.  You can register by emailing Mandy Spriegel at: aspriegel@stpatrickwadsworth.org  or calling her at 847.623.8446, ext. 31

My personal note to you:

I am a poor scrapbooker, at best.  Anyone who has seen my son’s Sacraments album at a parent night can attest to it.  But my son picks that book at least every two months and looks through it…it’s his Sacramental Life and it carries him, now, through the tough times of adolescence.  Although an amateur effort on my part, he knows that he and this matter/ed to me.  He will graduate from high school this year.  To know that he and this mattered this much to me is the best gift I can give him as a mother.  I hope you will be encouraged to give this a try. There should be a great deal of laughter at this evening!   Mandy Spriegel
