Altar Server Training

2008-2009

Church of Saint Patrick

• Altar Servers at St. Patrick’s are young ladies and gentlemen who have made their First Holy Communion.  They typically serve from the end of their 3rd Grade year until they are completing 8th Grade.
• High School ladies and gentlemen may continue to serve as long as they choose, but they are not scheduled.
• Young ladies and gentlemen are encouraged to train as Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Communion at Mass following their Confirmation in their 8th Grade year.
• Training takes one evening and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

Once training is accomplished, altar servers will be scheduled for one Mass time only.  Families will select the Mass time for which they would like to be scheduled.  Servers make a commitment to serve for a year at a time and are scheduled three months at a time to accommodate family life and scheduling.  All liturgical ministry schedules (servers are liturgical ministers) begin, every year, with the First Sunday of Advent.  All servers may and should ‘sub’ at any Mass in need of servers.

Training Dates and Times

for 2008-2009 School Year:

Sunday, October 19, 2008, 7 p.m. in NC

Will allow new servers to sign up and serve for Christmas

Sunday, January 11, 2009, 7 p.m. in NC

Will allow new servers sign up and serve for Lent and Easter Season.

Sunday, May 17, 2009, 7 p.m. in the NC

Will allow recent First Communicants to train for this wonderful ministry.

All training dates/times are immediately following the 6 p.m. Mass on a Sunday night.  This helps families by encouraging them to go to Mass at 6 p.m. and not have to travel back on another night of the week.  Training is accomplished in one evening session.
